The Month I Had Five Jobs
I love theatre. Theatre is my passion, and I have yet to find an area that I didn't enjoy in some aspect. My passion for theatre has led me to take on as many different opportunities as possible. Currently, I have had the opportunity to say "YES!" to five different projects:
1. Costume Internship
So, I still have the job I am in Providence to do. I recently finished my wardrobe assignment with The Mountaintop, and am now back 9 to 5 in the costume shop! We have some down time right now, allowing me to expand my portfolio and learn new things (including welt pockets, cartridge pleats, and creating a dye book and a hair/wig styling and maintenance book.) I also have had the opportunity to do some community giveback projects - making scarves for children in Africa through a friend in the Peace Corps and making blankets for hospice patients and disabled veterans.
2. House Assistant
At Trinity Rep, I have had the opportunity to work as a house assistant when I am not on wardrobe crew. Currently, I am house assisting for our production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Job duties include checking all facilities for safety and cleanliness before patrons arrive, scanning tickets, answering questions, and making sure patrons are completely satisfied with their experience.
3. Child Wrangler
Also at Trinity Rep, I am currently acting as an assistant child wrangler for our production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. The production has 16 kids (two casts of eight) and has allowed me to see the rehearsal process in tandem with helping the children in rehearsal. Now, I work backstage to help kids with their quick changes, ensure they make their entrances, and do pre-show and post-show duties.
4. Part-Time Merchandise Sales for Disney's The Lion King
So, as an avid Disney fan, I am pretty excited about this one. I had my first shift on Monday helping with set up, and did training and my first sales shift yesterday. I am excited to see what else this job holds!
5. Teaching Assistant for Introduction to Acting
Trinity's education program offers a variety of classes throughout the year. I have recently accepted the opportunity to work as a TA for the upcoming introduction to acting class! I will be assisting Linda Sutherland on Mondays for the next eight weeks!
