End of the Year Recap and black odyssey

Wow! It’s amazing how fast time can get away from us. Due to tech and an unfortunate flu virus, my 2018 recap is coming to you 28 days into 2019!

For the month of January, I have been running wardrobe on our production of black odyssey here at Trinity Rep. The script is a beautiful setting of Homer’s Odyssey featuring an incredible cast of actors. I have felt truly blessed to be on this project. I have also gained some new wardrobe skills! This is the biggest show I have run to date with lots of moving pieces and parts. I have a full track of changes and tracking costumes all around the space. I also have the opportunity to hone my makeup skills as I apply a black eye and some African inspired face paint.

It’s crazy to believe I began 2018 still living in Nebraska working as the Performing Arts Coordinator at Doane University. I learned a lot during my time there - from time management, organization, and budgeting to marketing our departments via social media, website updates, emails, and snail mail. I loved being home with friends and family, but knew that it would soon be time for me to spread my wings once more and fly (or drive!) somewhere new.

In late spring, I applied for two major job opportunities - Costume Technician at Trinity Rep and Stitcher at Disney World. While weighing both incredible options, I chose the path that I felt would give me a more varied theatrical experience and more opportunities for learning and growth.

Before heading to Rhode Island, I spent part of my summer designing The Tell Tale Farce at the Brownville Village Theatre.

In August, my mom and I took a week to drive to New England, stopping at various tourist locations along the way. We had an absolute blast! We visited the Bridges of Madison County in Iowa, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Hershey’s Chocolate World, spent a day in Philadelphia, and more! We visited 12 states total on our journey.

In September, my dear friends Mitch Bean and Rachel Curtiss were married. I had the fortunate opportunity to sing at their wedding and to make Rachel’s dress.

At Trinity, I was in the shop building and backstage as wardrobe for both Pride and Prejudice and black odyssey. I had the opportunity to make various costume pieces for each and learned a lot while I was working backstage.

2018 was a year of incredible growth for me as an artist and human. I look forward to seeing what the rest of 2019 has in store!
