Pride and Prejudice Recap
The whirlwind run of Pride and Prejudice has concluded! The show was an incredible learning experience for me. I handled more costumes, wigs, and hair pieces than I ever had before and I can confidently say that I learned a LOT during the process.
Firstly, let me say that I am grateful to have a team of powerful humans supporting me through this process. My outstanding boss, Amanda, was always there to support me - from me texting her questions during the run of the show to when I called her an hour before curtain because of a major costume rip. Emily, our extraordinary wig artisan, taught me the basics of restyling and maintenance, and helped reset them as often as she could. And of course Meg, Alyssa, Yvonne, and Luke who round out our shop team for assisting me with any major or horrifying repairs that happened during the run. They are all superheroes.
I got to wear a costume!
I was super excited to have my own costume for the show. The apron was my favorite part!
At the beginning of the process, I was worried about the sheer amount of work the show had for me. But, little by little and piece by piece, I found my groove. My preshow and post show became more like an orchestrated event. I memorized my track and had a ton of fun.
I put a wig on onstage
which was one of the craziest things I’ve ever done. The actor who wore it played Mary and Mr. Bingley and would rapidly switch between the two onstage in full view of the audience. I had great worries it might fall off or come unpinned but it never did!
Overall, the process was difficult and challenging, but I am glad I had the opportunity to learn through it. I am looking forward to my next opportunity to run wardrobe, but for now I am back up in the shop! We just finished our tech for A Christmas Carol and will soon be to work on our next show of the season black odyssey.
