Things are Happening and I'm Just Happy to Be Here!
The past 18 months have been incredibly difficult for all of us. We’ve lost lives, friends, family members, loved ones. We’ve lost jobs, money, housing, insurance, stability. We’ve lost opportunities. We’ve lost hope, and found it again. Everyone’s experience has been vastly different, yet some facts remain constant: we are living through a global pandemic, through a period of immense change. We are emerging in an altered reality, where things are different yet in so many ways the same.
My life has been a whirlwind. In March of 2020, I left Trinity Rep to be home for what we presumed and hoped would be two weeks. Two weeks turned in to a month which turned in to the summer, then the fall. Then, in September, Trinity made the difficult decision to lay off several of the staff, including myself. I decided to move back home to Nebraska, unsure of what the next few months or years would be for me.
I started a master’s degree program online through Wichita State University, giving me the flexibility to work from anywhere around whatever my schedule may be. I am in my second semester now, currently taking courses in Managing Arts Organizations and Contemporary Issues in American Arts. More exciting news will be coming soon!
I worked for seven months at Ameritas in administration customer service for the group dental and vision insurance.
I spent the summer at the Brownville Village Theatre designing two shows, Fools by Neil Simon and Crimes of the Heart by Beth Henley, and serving as Costume Shop Advisor.
In August, I spent 80 hours working on costume inventory for Community Players in Beatrice, NE. I started with shoes (450 pairs!) and moved on to Rack A. They have a huge stock, of which I catalogued 1,230 items in total. The program we used is StageStock - a cloud based inventory system!
Then, I made the long drive back to Rhode Island where I returned to work at Trinity Repertory Company as a Costume Technician! I am so excited to see what this season will hold for me. I am currently slated to run A Christmas Carol and Sueño as part of our 2021-2022 mainstage season.
Other exciting projects on the way for me, I will be teaching the costumes portion of a Theatre Tech Boot Camp at Westborough High School in Massachusetts and costume designing a new play by Charlie Thurston called Lifted at Wilbury Theatre Group presented outdoors at the WaterFire Arts Center in Providence!
I am hopeful that this year and the years to come will bring a continued love, hope, peace, and joy to all of us. Stay safe. Stay healthy. Get vaccinated. And I hope to see you soon!
