Body Positivity in Theatre at KPHA
Last semester during my Introduction to Adaptive Leadership class, I decided to focus on the adaptive challenge of Body Positivity in Theatre. Throughout the semester, I learned more about the movement and conducted “experiments” to gather data about what people know about the movement, their personal experiences with body justice and anti-fat biases, and what they wish to see in the future. The results were truly astounding.
As the semester neared its end, I began a discussion with my professor, Dr. Suzanne Hawley, a public health academician and licensed clinical psychologist. She asked if I would be interested in sharing my research at potential state or national conferences. I was incredibly shocked by this and said yes!
Flash forward to last month, Dr. Hawley submitted my research to the Kansas Public Health Association Conference. We were accepted and created a poster to showcase the project I have been working on.
In addition to the poster, I created a Resource Packet and a cover photo for the event, which is being held virtually this year from Sept. 21-23!
