Steel Magnolias has always been a dream show of mine so when I was asked to design hair, makeup, and wigs I was honored! Each character had their own concept and look(s) throughout the show and I am so incredibly proud of how they all turned out!
For Annelle, we wanted to start with some big 80s hair but give her a bit of an unfinished/nervous feel at first with simple makeup to emphasize her lifestyle transition as she is realizing the extent of her husband’s betrayal. For scene 2, we wanted a major change - bigger, bolder hair (styled by Rachel Curtiss) and a bolder makeup lip. Third scene the only shift was makeup, going back to a basic look as she settles into her new life. Finally, we decided to use Tucker’s natural hair for the last scene out of homage to Shelby’s big chop during motherhood - something you can just run your fingers through and go!
